Around the Grounds...

Updated: Mar 6, 2019

Who are the Presenters of the Month for Feb? What's new in each SBU? Read on to find out!

Oz:

To say it has been a massive Feb in Oz would be an understatement. Over the month, more than 200 presenters presented 5139 seminars to close to 200,000 students; that's over 12% of the entire Australian high school population! Massive shout-outs go out to Steph Douvos who was Presenter of the Month for Feb, averaging a whopping 99.75 average over 41 seminars conducted over the month. Also kudos to Teams NSW and Qld, who had 6 and 3 presenters respectively in the top 10. Last, but not least, a massive shout-out to Ariane Dol who presented 75 seminars across the month.

Finally, a big shout-out to every single person in the Oz office - Phoebes, DK, Alistair, Jules, Lina, Kelly, Elliot, Lachy, Paloma and Pat - for going absolutely above and beyond this month. On behalf of a lot of happy clients, and supported presenters, I just want to say how much we appreciate you guys burning the midnight oil across the month.

Singapore:

A big shout-out to Ryo Yamamoto, presenter for the month in Singapore with a feedback average of 99.38%. Great work Ryo.

Also, as many of you may know Jack Beresford from Team UK has been galivanting around South-East Asia helping kids in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and more! He’s been smashing it delivering well over 50 sessions to date.

He wanted to pass on an awesome helping the kids moment at a school called GEMS World Academy in Singapore (see attached image, it’s colossal):

“Today I went to GEMS World Academy Singapore. It was their first ever Elevate session (TM to 11th & 12th Grade). Right from the get go, the energy of the room was fantastic, students engaged, wide eyes on certain points and lots of banter throughout. The contact offered an open forum at the end for questions but no-one had any. However, once the students were dismissed, 3 boys came up to me. The first 2 had loads of great questions about study groups and studying in the UK, you could tell the session was just another thing that was driving them towards their goal which was awesome to hear. Once they left, I sat down with the final boy for 10 minutes. Turns out he has tremendous pressure from home and his social life and you could tell he was extremely overwhelmed with expectations from other places. Ultimately this had led him to believe he wasn't good enough for his first choice university whilst also being petrified of not achieving that place. We spoke about back-up plans and establishing clarity around his goal of getting into Uni and actually planning his work. I think a mixture of this and just giving him a forum to be honest and open about what he wants out of life and these exams, meant he left the conversation with a smile, a sense of determination and after just 10 minutes, saying he could actually achieve the goal he wanted.”

We’ll be looking for another presenter to fly over to Singapore in August 2019, so keep a look out for updates or even let Kirun know at kirun@elevateeducation.com that you’re interested!

South Africa:

In SA, we have a 2-way tie for the Presenter of the Month. Congrats to both Candice Weber and Danielle Retief, who both topped the presenting table for Feb and managed to average 100% feedback across the month! Great work.

As many of you will know, one of the exciting projects we are currently running in South Africa, is our partnership with a number of large corporates such as Investec, Toyota and ABSA Barclays, who sponsor Elevate going into township schools across Africa, to work with low-income, socially disadvantaged students. We have just received our first year's results from the Investec program, and the amazing news is that we managed to help each of the schools we worked with increase their results for the year. In particular, at Kelokitso Comprehensive High School (Soweto) there was an improvement in the Matric pass rate of 17.5% in 2018 compared to 2017 and at Ogwini Comprehensive Technical High School (Umlazi) there was a 15% increase in the Grade 8 pass rate, and a 19% increase in the Grade 10 pass rate from 2017 to 2018. A big thank you to the presenters who were involved in this program last year. It is amazing to see the hard work yield such positive results. Obviously, a big thank you as well to Investec and Toyota respectively, who made this a reality.

Finally, a big thank you to both Phellelo and Brendan Allan who have both packed their bags and hit the road over the last few weeks; Phellelo jetted off to Seychelles to facilitate our ABSA Barclays program with scholarship students, whilst Brendan was in Joburg training up our newest coaches. Thanks guys!

UK:

What better way to get ready for March Madness than a busy Fitness-building Feb, as we presented at over 200 schools and reached 30,000 students not just across the UK, but as far afield as Spain, as Joe McArdle packed his bags and headed off to Barcelona, for a seminar with a client international school. Thank you Joe!

And for Presenter of the Month we have 2 big shout-outs, as we have another tie at the top of the leader board. Congrats to Mo Elkossi and Luke Meehan, both from Team Northwest, who finished Feb with a perfect average of 100%. Well done guys!

Finally, the London office has 2 full-time roles that they are looking to the fill at the moment: 1x Business Development Manager role which is responsible for meeting and signing up new schools and 1 x Operations Manager role that is responsible for managing the UK Team's accounts payable and receivable, as well as supporting the GM. Both are awesome roles, so if you have graduated or are coming close to graduation, consider applying. Click here for more information.

New York:

And last, but certainly not least, to Team NY, where there is a lot happening on the people front. Firstly, a big welcome to the newest members of the team: Eno, Gabby, Gia, Wilson, Mikayla, Lexi and Andre. Great to have you all on board. Speaking of starting dates, a big-shout out to Tabel, who celebrates his 2 year anniversary with the company. Mate, we hope you've enjoyed it as much as we have enjoyed having you around the place!

Welcome to our Feb newbies!

Just as in SA and the UK, we have a tie at the top for the Presenter of the Month for February. Massive, massive shout-outs to Lauren Cassidy and Devonte Gilchrist, who also tied for the month on an average of 100%. Well done! An honourable mention should also go out to Zack Hajjar, who was the Team Leaders' Choice for Feb. Well done to everyone!

Finally, on HR matters, the NY office is a hiring spree at the moment. We are continuing to build up the office team, and we are now looking to fill the following roles:

* 2 x Program Coordinators: For those not down with the Elevate lingo just yet, Program Coordinators are the people responsible for ensuring that a school's program runs smoothly and effectively. This includes meeting the with the school to determine the program's outcomes, monitoring outcomes over time with the school, conducting teacher training and more.

* 1 x Head of Recruitment: As we grow we have a never ending need to continue to build the presenting team and this is obviously where the Head of Recruitment comes in. Your job is to get out of the office as much as possible, letting people know the role exists. You are also responsible for interviewing, selecting and training presenters.

If you are interested in finding out more about the roles click here, or if you are interested in applying contact Rob at rob@elevateeducation.com. I should also point out that the roles we are advertising on the site are open for anyone to apply to across the company, regardless of which country you may be in, and regardless of your existing role. Note, that some countries are easier than others for getting work visas, so we can't guarantee how far we can advance any specific job application, but I would encourage everyone who is interested in a role to put their hands up when they come up.

Finally, I just want to say a massive thank you to every presenter across the company for everything you have done across the month. There can only ever be 1, or now increasingly it seems 2, presenters of the month, but just because your name may not be up in lights for February doesn't mean that you aren't doing an amazing job, and it doesn't mean that we don't appreciate what you are doing. So on behalf of everyone at HQ, THANK YOU FOR A GREAT FEB!
