Global Awards 2023: Coach of the Year & Kyoto Day 2

Doug Barton

For our second instalment on this year’s Global Awards, we’ll be taking you through our wonderful Coach of the Year nominees and 2023 winner! You can also read about what the team got up to during day 2 of their Kyoto extravaganza, including their private hike up to the iconic Fushimi Inari shrine.

Elevate’s Coach of the Year Award

At Elevate, we’re incredibly lucky to have the privilege of providing a one-to-one coaching service to students who need additional support in levelling up their study skills. We’ve heard time and time again from parents what a difference these sessions can make, both to their child’s ability to study and their confidence in exams and assessments. Our coaches have the opportunity to turn a student’s school year around – and they do, year in and year out. The Coach of the Year Award recognises those who go above and beyond for their students, providing motivation and encouragement whilst transforming their relationship with learning.

Our 2023 Global Coach of the Year…

Kevin Le

Australian Team

‘The trip was amazing. It was my first time in Japan despite wanting to go for a very long time. The activities, food and sights were great fun, but it was the people around me that ultimately made the trip memorable. It was a blast getting to know everyone, especially since we’re all like-minded individuals. Even though it was my first time meeting most of the attendees, after just a few days it felt like I’d known everyone for a lifetime! It was honestly such a surreal experience!

I was absolutely shocked when my name was announced for Global Coach of the Year. I don’t think that the work I do is particularly distinctive; I truly believe that all of the Elevate coaches worldwide are incredible! This is especially true for my colleagues who were also vying for the Global award: Nolwaz (team SA) and Joe (team UK). However, I admit it is sincerely gratifying to be recognised for your work. The Global Awards is proof that no hard work goes unnoticed at Elevate.’

Well done, Kevin! Keep up the fantastic work!

Next week will be our recap of the coveted Team Leader of the Year award, so make sure to keep an eye out for our update next week!

Kyoto Day 2: Temples, More Temples & Sake!

Up and raring to go at 6:50am, the team began day 2 with a trip into the Higashiyama Mountains to tackle Mt Inari and the hidden walk of the Fushimi Inari shrine. Beating the crowds with their early start, the group were guided up the 4.2km hike on a private tour with detours onto the surrounding forest trails. Whilst taking in the hidden bamboo groves, waterfalls and secret altars, they learned about Japan’s native religion, Shinto. They also didn’t miss the chance to snap a couple of Insta-worthy shots which you can see below!

After a quick stop-off at Kiyomizu temple, the team had moved from the sacred, restorative waters of the Otowa-no-taki waterfall, to a beverage of a very different nature - Japan’s national drink. Starting with a tour of the Geikkeikan Brewery, they learned how sake is produced and what gives each type its own distinct flavour. Then, under the supervision of an expert, the team commenced their sake tasting, finishing off the visit with a ramble around the Fushimi Sake District of the city.

Next week we’ll be celebrating our Team Leader of the Year and giving you a rundown of day 3 of the Kyoto trip – stay tuned!
