Global Awards 2023: Team Leader of the Year & Kyoto Day 3

Doug Barton

Welcome to our penultimate 2023 Global Awards recap – a review of our Team Leader of the Year award and an overview of the final full day of the Kyoto trip!

Team Leader of the Year

Our Elevate Team Leaders are essential to ensuring we run a smooth operation when delivering our workshops and seminars in schools. Leading from the front, these senior presenters help to maintain a fantastic relationship with clients, communicate any concerns to the office, and assist their team in their development. The Team Leader of the Year Award seeks to recognise those who are proactive in supporting both their presenters and our clients; mentoring, advising, and taking action when needed.

Our 2023 Global Team Leader of the Year

Dante Burgess

US Team

‘Firstly, it was such an honour to win TL of the Year at the US National Awards event, but to find this culminated in a trip to Kyoto made it all that more exciting. Japan is a country I have wanted to visit since I was a young child, so to be a part of this was awesome because I got to cross something off my bucket list. My biggest highlight from the trip was that I was able to learn about the samurai culture and, the icing on top…. I got to be a samurai with a real katana!

The award ceremony to commemorate the nominees was so well thought out and put together, everyone was dressed to impress. To ultimately win the Global TL of the Year award was such a humbling experience. Hearing my team speak so highly of me made me feel that I’m doing something right and helping my community in a way I feel is truly beneficial.

My time at Elevate has been nothing short of amazing, I’ve been able to experience both being a coach and now an office member and I’ve loved every level I’ve been on. One of my goals in life has been to be part of something that I feel helps, and at Elevate, we help so many people. I’m so happy to be a part of the Elevate fam!’

Next week we’ll shine the spotlight on our 2023 Office Member of the Year, the last of this year’s Global Award Winners.

Kyoto Day 3: Buddhist Meditation and Nishiki Market

The team’s final day began with a lie-in and a leisurely departure time of 8:30am, followed by a relaxing visit to a Zazen temple where they were led in a guided meditation session by a local Buddhist teacher. After calming those pre-ceremony nerves, the group explored the oldest Soto temple in Japan, Kosho-Ji. Founded in 1223 by the figurehead of the Soto school of Zen Buddhism, this monastery is still very much active today, offering a fascinating insight into the religions’ teachings and way of life.

To refuel for the big evening ahead, the team left the peace and quiet of the monastery for the hustle and bustle of Kyoto’s largest food market, Nishiki. This labyrinth of over 100 shops and restaurants is a treasure trove of traditional street food, unusual ingredients and kitchen accessories. Here they split up in an effort to divide and conquer the huge number of treats on offer. A popular delicacy found here is Tako Tamago, a candied baby octopus with a quail’s egg inside its head – don’t think we can blame the guys if they gave this one a miss.

After the sensory overload of Nishiki, it was back to the hotel for a quick break before getting suited and booted for the main event – The Global Awards Ceremony.

Our final 2023 Global Awards instalment will give you guys the details of the awards ceremony itself and celebrate our Office Member of the Year Winner – definitely not one to miss!
