Meet Siya, South African Head of Talent

Updated: Jun 24

In this month's Meet the Team, we're getting to know Siya, our Head of Talent for Team SA.

Joining Elevate as a presenter in 2017, Siya has now been a key member of the South African office for the past two and a half years, helping to build out the fantastic team we have operating there today.

Responsible for bringing new talent into the Elevate team and supporting current presenters, Siya is a crucial point of contact for team members both old and new. He works alongside the rest of the SA team to promote openings, select candidates, and onboard new team members.

But how did Siya get to be in this role? And what does he enjoy most about it? Onto Siya to tell you more...

Tell us a bit about your time at Elevate so far?

I started off as a presenter in KZN after coming back from the UK, unsure of my next step. My mum then said I needed to get a J-O-B, so I applied and got the job! Since then, I’ve risen through the ranks from Team Leader of Team KZN to the current Head of Talent for Elevate South Africa. It’s been an amazing journey!

What degree did you study and why?

I pursued a design degree because I have a big heart for designing homes and creating spaces that people can be proud of—a place where they find peace and, of course, a place they can call home.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Besides the 300 messages I get from presenters (haha, jokes!), I love hearing about the impact of our sessions and how each presenter prepares. They understand the importance of these sessions and the difference they can make, which is incredibly rewarding to see.

What is your hidden talent that no one in the office knows about?

I make really good cocktails! I have a whole collection at home and love trying out different recipes. I’m always watching bartenders make them (which they find amusing).

Go-to karaoke song?

"Cuff It" by Beyoncé.

Favourite TV series/film?

"How to Get Away with Murder" (series) and "Pay It Forward" (film).

Favourite food?

Anything with chicken! They used to call me KFC'ya in high school.

What are you most excited about at Elevate at the moment?

I’m currently excited about onboarding a few new presenters. Even though I’ve done training a billion times, I absolutely love meeting new talent, onboarding, and training them. Plus, I always look forward to them saying, “You’re taller and more handsome in person!”.

Thanks Siya for giving us a glimpse into your day-to-day here - and telling us about that absolutely fantastic nickname.
